Lord Shiva - The Supreme Divine, Devon Ke Dev Mahadev

Devo Ke Dev Mahadev - Nepali Rudraksha

Among the holy trinity of Hinduism Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva), Lord Shiva stands as the eternal force of destruction and transformation. He is the Adi Yogi, the first among yogis, the formless consciousness beyond time, and the supreme being known as Devon ke Dev – Mahadev.

The Origin of Lord Shiva

Unlike other deities who have specific births or incarnations, Lord Shiva is beyond origin and end, The eternal consciousness that existed before creation and will remain after dissolution.
In the Shiv Puran and Linga Puran, it is said that when Brahma and Vishnu argued over who was supreme, a massive, infinite pillar of light appeared before them. That endless light was Shiva the symbol of infinity, neither beginning nor end, representing the eternal truth (Sat–Chit–Ananda).

From that cosmic energy, creation began showing that Shiva is not only a destroyer but also the source of all creation.

Why He Is Called Devon Ke Dev  "Mahadev"

The title Mahadev means "The God of Gods".Here’s why He holds this divine epithet:

  1. Supreme Over All Deities: Even gods like Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and Kartikeya bow to Him. He governs the cosmic functions of creation, preservation, and destruction.
  2. Embodiment of Balance: Shiva represents both ascetic detachment (Vairagya) and divine compassion (Karuna).
  3. Symbol of Simplicity: Clad in tiger skin, smeared in ash, and adorned with serpents, He shows that divinity doesn’t need grandeur — truth and purity are enough.
  4. Destroyer of Evil, Giver of Liberation: Shiva destroys ignorance and ego, paving the path toward Moksha (liberation).
  5. Universal Father: As Bholenath, He listens to every devotee — king or beggar — equally.
Hence, He is called Mahadev, The Greatest of all Gods.
